History of Our Family
The Brief History in Time – Unearthing the past, Moving ahead in future

The known 5th generation of Mahashabde family welcomes you on a journey to the history of our well spread family around the globe.

The origin of Mahashabde family goes back in history. The known location from where the family originated is Amalner, in Dhuley district in North Maharashtra.
The Adya Purush of Mahashabde family is still unknown and work is under progress to find our family's Mul Purush

Further in 19th Century, Bulaji Mahashabde gave birth to Dattatray UpakhyaBabasaheb Mahashabde, who migrated to Nagpur, the then Capital of Central Province of British rule in search of job.Babasaheb Mahashabde joined DAGPT as a cashier.

When Baba came to Nagpur he rented a house at Kawale Wada in Ram Mandir Galli, in Mahal. Mahal (Palace) is an old city centre, called as Mahal as it was the area where Palace of Maharaja Bhosale of Nagpur is situated.

Akka and Baba were very social and helped many people.
Memoir from various second generations Mahashabde's it was known that Baba was very strict and disciplined person.Akka was soft in nature. Nonetheless, they were very hospitable and warm in welcoming everyone.
Akka - Baba's family started growing soon with birth of Kamala or also known as Tai followed by Narayan or Bhau, Manohar or Bapu, Moreshwar i.e. Appa, Malati i.e. Malu, Anant or Anna and Shalini or Shalu.
It was typical in early 20th century to have a large family and everyone living together, unlike today's nuclear and separated families. Family values have had utmost importance. Although the society started to getting urbanized, agriculture or farming has been a major source of economy of the families and the country. So, having more children used to be a great help for the family as an additional helping hand. Moreover, in those days, population was still smaller as compared to today; so there were enough available resources, less competition, lesser needs, peaceful minds and happy and content people. It was however British rule those days, so freedom fighting movements were prominent everywhere… it was patriotic atmosphere… and our Mahashabde family was growing.
In 1932, Baba bought some land in adjacent lane of Ram Mandir Galli and constructed a house and 'Anand Bhuvan' came into existence. 'Anand Bhuvan' was a shelter for many needy and talented people who came to study in Nagpur. It was a 'Learn and Earn' time. As Nagpur was a capital place of the then Central Province, many people from neighboring cities used to come to Nagpur to study and earn their bread and butter. Many people lived there at times and still remember the Mahashabde family with gratitude.
Baba also bought some agricultural land for cultivation and family of Anant Mahashabde, looks after that. Soon, at suitable age, everyone got married. I would like to encourage you to go through our Mahashabde family tree to see the details.
Social Contribution.
Our family members always served society for a good cause. Bapu and Appa were active in Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) which was founded by
Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar on Gudhi Padva in the year 1925 in Nagpur.
RSS is a non-political organization and its mission is revitalization of Indian value system based on universalism and peace and prosperity to all. It also serves to unite Hindus to build a strong India. Bapu and Appa worked as Pracharak in different regions of India and devoted themselves in RSS activities. Appa secured a job in Indian Railways and moved to Lucknow but still was connected to RSS activities throughout his life. To further the RSS activities, Bapu stayed back in Nagpur and started his career as a teacher as well as a journalist. In 1947 India got independence from British rule. The major responsibility in those days was to stabilize the scattered country socially, economically and politically. Bapu and Appa devoted their life through RSS to unite this society.
Later in 70's Bapu started Hindustan Samachar, the first news agency of India, in Nagpur. Bapu established this news agency all over India. It was a time of Emergency imposed by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. RSS was banned. However, Bapu and his son Amar, along with other thousands of Swayamsevaks, continued RSS work of good cause of social reforms and continued work to awaken Hindu society through the umbrella of RSS. In 1977, during this most turbulent situations and RSS ban, Amar was caught and sent to the political imprisonment for 18 months. However, later the government realized the work of RSS and removed the ban from RSS. We must appreciate and value the contribution of our family and especially the women who bravely supported the work of our men and at the same time helped our family, kids and all those needy people who still sheltered at our house in such difficult times. Hats off to them!!!

In year 19xx, Dattatraya Upakhya Babasaheb Mahashabde passed away. Later in year 19xx Akka departed for the heavenly abode. We are the flowers of the tree that Akka and Baba sowed and we know that although we didn't see them, their blessings will always keep on showering on us, the Mahashabde's for generations.
